How long have you been working in your current role?
Three years
How did you get into your job?
I joined Wincanton in 2003 and have never looked back. After graduating from University, I took a year out and joined Wincanton as a graduate Finance Clerk based on the Focus contract in Tamworth.
Within the first few months I had started my CIMA professional qualifications and began the Management Development Programe. It was a non-stop, action packed, roller coaster of a first year and I loved every minute of it. It was hard work but well worth the satisfaction and sense of achievement I felt at the end of it.
What qualifications do you have?
I have a degree in Economics and since working at Wincanton I have completed the first 2 tiers of the CIMA syllabus.
What skills / qualifications did you need to get your current job?
To become a Finance Manager I needed to train for my CIMA qualifications as well as progress through the Wincanton Management Development Program.
Please describe the company that you work for and what it does...
Wincanton is a leading European supply chain solutions provider and through carefully managed growth and by striving to exceed customers' expectations, we have established leading positions in some of Europe's most demanding markets.
Wincanton offers diversity, challenges, training, further qualifications, support, flexibility, friendship and most importantly a hi viz vest!!!
Please describe your typical working day...
I have been Finance Manager of the Tesco contract for the past seven months. I am now solely resopnsible for the weekly and period reporting on site and have daily direct contact with Tesco. This is a key management role on a key contract and it has all been achieved within three years. Not an unusual story for someone in Wincanton.
What are the things you most like about your job?
I like the fact that I am offered support across the organisation. Also for someone who wants to progress their career, Wincanton offers a lot of opportunities! From talking with friends I don't think any other comapny can offer such brilliant career progression and training.
What do you want your next career move to be?
I want to continue developing within Wincanton and one day hope to see myself reach director level.
