How did you get into your job?

I am from Dublin and was among the first in Ireland to study for a Degree in Transport Technology. I worked for Wincanton in Ireland for a short time on a work experience placement. I then chose to join Wincanton's graduate programme because I wanted to work for a leading European Logistics company and have an opportunity to work outside Ireland.

A degree in Transport Technology

What skills / qualifications did you need to get your current job?

Wincanton encourage graduates to develop a wide range of skills and gain as much experience in different areas of the business as possible. This combined with my degree in Transport Technology provided a basis for me to perform well in my current job role.

Please describe the company that you work for and what it does...

Wincanton is a European leader in the design and delivery of advanced supply chain solutions. Through every stage of the supply chain process, from raw materials to recycling, Wincanton provide customers with solutions they can trust.

Please describe your typical working day...

I joined the business development team to work on large scale projects related to the Irish market. The opportunity allowed me to work with senior management both within customers companies and Wincanton. The role involves travelling extensively and working with large cross disciplined project teams.

What are the things you most like about your job?

Working in the MDP for Wincanton has been fantastic. I have developed practical management skills and stretched myself in terms of work based projects. The course has given me a nationally recognised diploma in leadership and management. Also the help and support from the established managers has been invaluable to my career development.

What do you want your next career move to be?

Wincanton offer graduates a structured training programme and the opportunity to work with a wide variety of people from frontline operations to director level.
