I had received offers from more than one company before choosing Wincanton to further my career. I chose Wincanton based on its reputation for truly developing able graduates through to high levels of management and on the evidence of a structured training plan that set it apart from its competitors. In this respect Wincanton has never let me down.

Degree in Geography

What skills / qualifications did you need to get your current job?

There are almost no companies, other than Wincanton, that can offer the level of exposure to responsibility or the opportunity to show what you are capable of achieving in a graduate role.

In the three years I have been working with Wincanton I have worked on five different contracts; in roles ranging from Transport Clerk, through Project Manager, to Contracts Manager acquiring and developing a number of skills. The full scope of these varied roles was only realised with the full support of a committed management team who were willing to place their trust in the abilities of a new and unknown quantity.

Please describe the company that you work for and what it does...

Wincanton is a leading European supply chain solutions provider.

Through carefully managed growth and by striving to exceed customers' expectations, we have established leading positions in some of Europe's most demanding markets. Wincanton invests in people and in the technology they work with to drive chagne and respond to new challenges.

Please describe your typical working day...

I now work as a Shift Manager at B&Q in Swindon where I am project managing the start-up of a new contract win; distributing all point of sale material for B&Q stores throughout the UK and Ireland. But even that doesn't give full justice to the level of responsibility and number of outside projects that I have been involved in for Wincanton centrally, working across divisions on project teams comprised of General Managers and Directors. The level of exposure to senior management early on was something that I could never have imagined when I joined.

What are the things you most like about your job?

Working for a company like Wincanton will allow you to develop as far as you are capable of going and will give you unrivalled opportunities to show exactly how far that is.

What do you want your next career move to be?

I plan to continue in my career development with Wincanton and eventually my goal is to progress to director level.
